Hi there,
I’m still coming down from a fantastic weekend with everyone that turned out for my farewell Weathering show!
What a Summer it’s been, some might say that it was foolish for me to do an artist residency, followed by teaching in Upstate NY, then a solo exhibition , and topped with the finale of an international move. And they’d be right! But also, all of these things have grown my confidence of what I’m capable of as I move forward.
Thank you to everyone who’s made online orders, helping me to clear my stock and lighten my load as we move. The online sale ends at Midnight TODAY! This is the last chance to purchase any work from me for an indeterminate amount of time.
Weathering
I want to say an absolutely HUGE thank you to everyone who made it to my exhibition and studio sale. It was such a fun and full-hearted day, and people said such lovely things – I wish I’d been taking notes!
Another thank you goes to Galapago Space for hosting me - Kathleen was a dream to work with, she curated the exhibition so thoughtfully, was wonderfully supportive and it’s beautiful that her and Will created this space in their very own backyard.
The work I shared in the gallery was somewhat a journal from the past few years - observations of nature, time and place. It was a love letter to the ways I’ve been weathered through my experiences. The wall-hanging 'Clouds’ rooted the space, it holds the feelings of how I want to live; slowly, thoughtfully, spaciously. It softens the edges of our living environment, absorbing sound, reminiscent of how trees in a forest can create hush. You can view more images of the installation on my website.
In the days leading up to the exhibition I decided to screen print a fold-out poster, so I could share some of the words that had been circling around my mind. It was a joy to make!
The Big Move
Matt, the cats, and I are moving to the UK in a couple of weeks time. We’ve relocated twice in the past eight years; first to California in Summer 2017 from London, and the second in Autumn 2021 to Colorado. These were both initiated by Matt’s job as a footwear designer, which has offered us some amazing experiences, but it’s time for us to forge our own future.
We’re not yet exactly sure what this is going to look like! We intend to spend our first few months catching up with family and friends, whilst travelling around to explore how and where we might want to live - we’re looking forward to some time and space to feel things out. I’ll be continuing my studio practice but I’ll also be looking for other income opportunities.
Needless to say but this is a BIG move! It’s going to take us a lot of energy, so who knows when I’ll next feel settled enough to share news. Thank you for being a reader of my newsletter, I truly appreciate it, and it means so much when people tell me they enjoyed something I said on here.
And now, some things I’ve enjoyed recently…
Cook:
Okonomiyaki - I’m not doing my best cooking right now, we’re trying to empty the freezer, fridge and get to the bottom of the many condiments. This is basically a Japanese green cabbage pancake that we pile toppings on – it’s delicious!
Listen:
I went to a gig last week at Larimer Lounge, with my friend Amanda – who took the majority of the photos I shared here of my exhibition (thank you!), you can check her work out here.
We saw Jeffrey Silverstein whose music has been coined as cosmic country, and was lovely to chat to post-gig, followed by Mikaela Davis who makes 60’s influenced psychedelia / folk rock. She plays the harp which made for a pretty mesmerising experience.
Look:
And that’s it! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
